He is Starsky and Hutch's bartender, snitch and, importantly, close friend. The Huggy Awards are named after Huggy. In an interview transcribed in a Black Bean Soup , Antonio Fargas, the actor who portrayed Huggy Bear, says: "At the time, it was considered hip to have one or two black actors on your series, and I was lucky enough to be one of those. Huggy Bear were an English riot grrrl band, formed in and based in Brighton. Evolving in tandem with the Olympia, Washington -based riot grrrl movement led by feminist bands such as Bikini Kill , [1] Huggy Bear called themselves "girl-boy revolutionaries", both in reference to their political philosophy and the gender makeup of their band.
